Aletha Freeman Obituary

Mrs. Aletha McDougle-Freeman of the late Edna Faye McDougle (Peggy) and Arthur Cunningham (Zummy) was born on May 25, 1966 in Brooklyn, NY. She departed this life while at St. Barnabas hospital in the Bronx, NY.

Aletha was raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, NY where she attended Public School 54, Junior High School 383 for the talented and gifted, and Westinghouse High School. She obtained her High School Diploma from Thomas Edison High School located in Queens, NY in May of 1985. She later studied Business Management at Brooklyn College Division of Student Affairs. In 2008 to 2011 she worked as a Program Aide at Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) assisting elderly patients in every way that she could. While working Aletha developed a passion for cooking and in return received her NYS DOH certificate in food in November of 2010. Aletha also received an Alcoholism and Substance abuse training certificate in November of 2010. Aletha was hard and dedicated worker. Aletha worked two jobs, one being the love for cooking, counseling, and mentoring she worked as a food service worker and cook at Barrier Free Living and the other being a Direct Care worker at stalling as a cook, counselor, and mentor from 2011 to 2014, building a strong and longtime friendship with many of her colleagues and residents, however her most dedicated jobs were being a mother to her only daughter Serenity “my joy" Hardy, and a wife to her husband Thomas Freeman of six years.  Aletha known to many as “Love “personality depended on how you treated her. Aletha was very intelligent. She could speak to languages and loved to read. Aletha loved to tell stories and no matter how long it was she could remember a date and year as if it were yesterday.

Aletha was a person that didn’t take mess from no one at any time, but you were there for her she was truly and wholeheartedly without any hesitation there for you. You could call Aletha at any time of night but don’t be surprised if you get a late phone call from her too. Aletha could talk for hours about family, and books and could party for even longer. Aletha loved to play cards, travel, and listen to music all while enjoying a cold beer, and it better be cold. Aletha has a smile that could brighten up a room. Having Aletha around you could never have a boring time or moment. She could dance for hours. Aletha enjoyed spending most if not all her time with her daughter, and sometimes her daughter's friends loving, and laughing with them as if they were her. Little kids absolutely adored her. In her spare time, she had a love for television shows, Martin, Fresh Prince of Bellaire, Empire and Star to be her most favorite.

On December 29th 2018 at the young and blessed age of 52, God decided to peacefully call her home. Aletha is preceded by her late sisters Lenora F. McDougle (Peanut) 2014, Denise T. McDougle (Neicy) 2018, and the father of her daughter Herbert E. Hardy JR. 2014.

From Your Daughter

Ma, I love you with EVERY inch of my being. We wasn't perfect and may

not have always complimented each other, but then again what mother

daughter relationship was. People would ask you if you had any more

children and you'll say, "she was enough", shoot I'll as for a little

brother or sister and you would tell me " I’ll buy you one". We shared

sooo many amazing memories and smiles(literally) 'boy do we have some

bright smiles. I remember making it a tradition to go somewhere every

Mother's Day (usually the mall to take pictures) and I’d always spoiled

you extra because your birthday was always so close to the same

time. I’d always stay on top of you making sure you taking care of

yourself and you'll say "yes MOTHER, I took my medicine" but you knew

your well-being was my only concern. You would speak so highly of your

baby girl, wanting to show me off and brag. You even wore my picture

on your neck and when people would ask who it was you would proudly

say, "My Queen". Your baby girl is now a grown woman that would do

nothing more than but to continue to make you smile and proud, and

I’ve always wanted you to know that i forgave you. I love you like

crazy mommy!!

Your Queen, Your Mooshie, your Joy
