Edith Leslie was born on May 25, 1937 in Newburgh, New York to the late Leroy Fields and Sarah Hobson. She was affectionately called “Edie.”
Edith received her early education in the Hanover County Public School District in Virginia. As a child, she was a member at Greater Nazarene Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia. After migrating to New York, she attended Junior High School 35 and William H. Maxwell Vocational High School in Brooklyn, New York.
Edith and James Alonzo Leslie were united in Holy Matrimony in 1960. To this union two children were born, Derek Alonzo Leslie and Antoinette Marian Leslie.
In 1967 Edith met James Sello and from this union Markesha Starlett Sello was born.
Edith was employed by Novelty Cord & Tassel Company in Brooklyn, New York where she worked for over 30 years until she retired in 2000.
She was a devout born-again Christian and was a member at New Frontier Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York and later New Jerusalem Holy Church in Brooklyn, New York.
Edith had a few close friends who were like sisters to her: Nathalia Manson, Genora Sinkler-Pettaway,
Geneva Winn, Katherine “Honey” Sheridan, and preceding her in death Mattie L. Williams
By way of the friendship of Mattie and Edith, she was introduced to Mattie’s mother, Mrs. Carrie Walker who was a mother figure to Edith and a Grandmother to her Children.
Edith was an independent, strong and loving mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. She was a quiet soul who was compassionate about serving the lord. She enjoyed laughing and being around her family and friends.
On Tuesday, July 3, 2018 our heavenly Father called his daughter, Edith home.
