Elyce Griggs Burns was born on June 8, 1948 in Brooklyn New York to the late Anthony Sr. and Thelma Griggs. She was a devoted woman who cared for everyone she came in contact with. During her life, she held many professional positions that catered to serving those in need. Her first calling was spent as a nurses assistant at various hospitals, along with home care support for the elderly. She took a 15 year absence from her career while she raised her children as a stay at home mom. During her absence from the workforce, Elyce spent each election cycle as a poll worker for the New York State board of elections. Elyce re-entered the workforce in 1993 as an assistant chef at The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. She ended her professional career at the NYC parks department in 2003. During retirement, she spent many years volunteering at Bethlehem Baptist Church to help serve as needed. Elyce was always known for her contagious smile, warm heart, and relentless energy to help anyone in need. She departed this life on March 28, 2018. Elyce leaves to cherish her memories, one sister Louise Griggs Harper of Brooklyn, one daughter Dawnette Griggs Wright of Virginia, one son Rashian Burns of Brooklyn, 6 grandchildren Shandora Griggs, Shaquaya Griggs, Davon Griggs, Lamar Burns, Darren Burns, Collin John, 6 great grandchildren Anthony Griggs, Jessie Griggs, Keymoni Griggs, Elijah Griggs, Jaleah Griggs, McKenzie Griggs, 4 sister in laws Beatrice Griggs, Emma Griggs, Geraldine Griggs, and Marcella Griggs, along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
