Kevin Theordric Frierson, affectionately known as “Kev”, was born on October 5, 1957 at Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn, New York to Nina Mae Frierson and the late Theordric Kelly Frierson.
Kev received his early education in the New York City Public Schools. During his youth he had a strong desire to play professional basketball. Kev’s desire also matched his talent, he played junior varsity and varsity basketball at Thomas Jefferson High School. Both of his parents believed in his talent and allowed him to move to Laurinberg, North Carolina to pursue his dreams. Kev went on to attend the Laurinberg Institute; a historic African American preparatory school known for its rich basketball tradition as well as its output of highly accomplished alumni. Kev attended Laurinberg for two semesters before becoming home sick and moving back to NYC with his family. Kev gave up on basketball and decided to make taking care of his family a full-time job.
Kev was employed as a security guard for over a decade. He did whatever he could to ensure his family had the best of the best. Kev loved the life of luxury and spared no expense when it came to looking his best. “Eating good” as he would say was the only way to live for him.
Confident and assertive with a heart as big as the Grand Canyon, Kev would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Kev embraced a multitude of people and took on the most difficult personal challenges against all odds. Kev was known to be very passionate about those he loved.
To cherish his precious memories he leaves: a son, Kevin Price (Suzzette Price); four grandchildren, Katrell Price, Kaliah Price, Kaelib Price, and Olivia Price; a loving mother, Nina Mae Frierson; three sisters, Rutheen Edwards, Margaret Corbett, and Cheryl Frierson; eight nephews, Shawn Frierson, Demille Corbett, Jason Corbett, Cory Corbett, Malacai “Josh” Corbett, Prince Julien, Aziah Corbett and Prince Julien Jr.; two nieces, Khalilah Frierson and Autumn Clarke; two aunts, Arteal S. Pygatt and Bernice Nettles Sellers. He is also survived by a cohort of cousins and faithful friends.
Words alone could never tell of Kev’s big kind heart, but to know him was to love him. He never neglected his loving family and was a devoted friend. He departed this world on July 28, 2018 at 7:50 p.m. His wit and humor, thunderous laughter, great sense of style, and sentimental nature will be greatly missed.
