Thomas Earl Oates Was Born November 10, 1943 to Lizzie Henderson-Oates & John Oates In Duplin, North Carolina. He later relocated to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 8 years old, but later moved to Staten Island, NY.
Thomas grew up In Brooklyn, NY where he got his GED & later on started a career as an Exxon Truck driver. He then got his certificate as an Oil Burner Mechanic and worked for Atlantic Pacific Oil Company for over 20 years & retired. He was married at the age of 30 for 18 years but separated and later remained good friends with his wife Patricia Oates.
Thomas had such a caring spirit that he sacrificed his life & happiness to his family. In his mid-life he faced a lot of trial & tribulations. He later turned to Christ & was given a second chance! He took that second chance and overcame every trial & tribulation that came his way. He had a great sense of humor and always kept us laughing. He was the biggest jokester in the family! He spent in last few days resting & watching his favorite T.V shows surrounded by some of his loved ones. Thomas gained his heavenly wings on Sunday Sept. 30, 2018. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will rest in peace!
Thomas was the youngest son of his siblings: Minnie, Richard, Francis, Joanne, Albert & Ethel whom preceded him in death as well as his parents Lizzie & John Oates.
Thomas leaves behind to mourn his Wife: Patricia Oates, his Daughters: Tonia Oates-Baylor (Frank), Theresa Oates, Tricia Oates (Malik), Traci Oates (Tyrone). Fifteen Grandchildren Tashara (Tyree), Ukeyma, Laura, Tori, Gertude, Tyra, Justina, Tre’min, Tyrone, Jordan, Romance, Te’Nye, Faith, Tae-Sean, & Tristan. As well as eight Great Grandchildren: Jayden, Jordan, Tafari, Promise, Prince, Jameson & Delilah. He also left behind two Step-Sons: Joseph Bowden, & Reggie Bowden (Shawna). Four Step Grandchildren: Shanease, Taylor, Mya, & Ariana. Three Siblings: Maggie Oates-Goddette, Orlando Oates and John Oates Jr. His In-Laws: Purnell Pulley, Wilmon Pulley, Robert Capers, Sr. & Barbara Clemons.
And a great host of nieces and nephews.
