On January 30, 2021 Alberta Frances Harris walked through the pearly white gates of heaven at the age of 92.
Alberta known to many as Aunt Bert was born on March 5, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY; from the union of the late Lenwood and Serlynia Harris. Alberta was the oldest of seven children. She never married or had any children of her own. However, she helped raise 7 of her sister Roz children: Terry, Hazel, Gwen, June, Jessica, Serlynia and Jesse.
Aunt Bert graduated at the age of 16 years old from Central Needle Trade High School, which is now known as The High School of Fashion Industries. Alberta’s creative mind led her to further her education at the Fashion Institute of Technology College where she received her Associate Degree. She lived her entire life in Brownsville. Aunt Bert proudly worked as a housekeeper for countless years. She worked for many families and across multigeneration. She was an incredible matriarch, as well as the royal leader in our family. Aunt Bert was able to touch so many lives and effect so many people due to her dynamic sense of being. Not only was Aunt Bert a second mother to Roz children she was a grandmother too their children. She was amazing aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. Aunt Bert was brutally honest yet ever so sweet. She lived her life unapologetic and to the fullest - She was, is and will always be a phenomenal woman.
Aunt Bert enjoyed passing her time by reading novels, watching classical movies, traveling, sitting outside talking with her friends and spending time with her great nieces and nephews.
Aunt Bert was predeceased by both of her parents Lenwood and Serlynia, two sisters Pauline and Roslyn, two nephew Christopher and Kevin and one niece Hazel.
Alberta is survived by her three sisters Hadassah McRae of CA, Jean Barnes of GA, and Beverly Beckham of VA, one brother Joseph Roberts and a sister in-law Bernice Roberts of NY and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephew’s family and friends.
