A Joyful Life of Faith, Love and Service
We come together to celebrate the radiant and inspiring life of Eugenie McKair Reid, who entered eternal rest at the age of 86 on July 16, 2025. We knew her as Sister Reid, Mother Reid, Grandma, Mama, Wealthy, and Ms. Reid. Her life overflowed with faith, love, laughter, and generosity. Eugene was a light to everyone she met and a living reflection of God's grace.
Born in Jamaica, joined in marriage in England, and later rooted in Rochdale Village, Queens, Eugenie built a life that stretched across oceans and embraced many hearts. She loved to travel to England, and one of her most treasured memories was her trip to Jerusalem, where she also formed lasting friendships. Her warmth, wisdom, and infectious joy made her a cherished presence in every community she touched.
Eugenie gave her time and heart fully to United Apostolic Lighthouse Church, where she served with passion in the food pantry and uplifted the congregation with her bold, beautiful singing voice. Her spirit was joyful, her prayers powerful, and her sense of justice unwavering--she was never afraid to stand for what was right or speak her mind.
With a heart made for healing, Eugenie poured herself into her work in the medical field--first at Flushing Hospital, then as a beloved private duty nurse. Her kindness and strength comforted many, and her dedication to caring for others was one of her greatest gifts. In a special place in her room, where she kept sentimental items, she stored countless glowing reference letters written by the families she served. Each letter managed to mention how Sister Reid went above and beyond expectations. She also collected numerous certificates from various organizations, recognizing her excellence--whether in education or service.
Undoubtedly, she carried herself with pride, and in every way, she had every reason to--because she truly was exceptional. Eugenie loved hard work because it made her feel vibrant, useful, alive, and loved.
Eugenie was the kind of person who always showed up--with birthday flowers, healing words, a well-timed joke, or a meal made with love. If you had a problem, she was going to help you solve it. If you needed something, she would do whatever she could and more. She visited the sick and wasn't even above messaging your feet with lotion if they were dry--as though she were tending to God's feet. She would listen, console, advise, guide, and even scold you. She was witty, wise, full of energy, and fiercely loving. Her presence filled rooms, and her love lingered long after you left.
She is joyfully remembered by her sisters, Beverly Grant and Barbara Brown: her children Clinton Reid, Sharon Reid-Diflorio, Sylvia Reid (in the spirit), and Collette Reid-Marriott (in the spirit); her loving son-in-law George Vickers; her cherished grandchildren Christina Vickers, Kyle Marriott, Brianna, Simon, and Julian; her precious great-grandson Ryan Rennocks; and a beautiful community of church family, neighbors, and friends who adored her.
Her Legacy LivesOn in Love
Eugenie's favorite verse, Habakkuk 3:19 -- "He makes my feet like hinds' feet..." perfectly captured her grace, her strength, and her steady spirit. She climbed every hill with faith, joy and determination. And now, having reached the mountaintop, she leaves behind a trail of love for us to follow.
Let us honor her by living as she did--with open hearts, generous hands, and unshakable joy.
