Lester F. Ross was born in Kings County hospital on March 10, 1965. Raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, the sixth of six children born to Walter Ross and Christine Ross-Givans. His parents; uncle Benny D. Speller; brother’s Eric S. Ross Sr.; John Ross & Albert Ross and sister in-law Marie Ross proceeded him in death. Lester passed on December 16, 2021, in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he received excellent medical care.
Lester was educated in the New York City Public School System, attended Horace E. Greene / P.S. 45 Elementary school and Halsey/J.H.S. 296.
Lester was as brilliant as a Rocket Scientist, so much so, that he was selected to attend a gifted and talented school when he was incredibly young, and was skipped a couple of grades in Junior HS.
Lester was a gifted athlete and talented hooper that made All City of his class in New York. Further, he dominated on the courts of Norman Thomas H.S., and thereafter, played collegiate basketball for Lehman College.
Lester was so intelligent that he aced every government exam he sat for, and scored 90% or higher on each. However, he opted to work for the United States Postal Service, but was employed in various service positions, at other institutions during his lifetime. His final job was distributor, for the local Wine and Spirits retail, on Halsey Street in his community.
Lester loved to travel and experience environments, but always came back to his roots in the Bushwick community.
Lester was stern, and never sugar coated what he had to say. He said what he meant, meant what he said and delivered the message in a tough fashion.
Lester leaves to cherish his memories: His only offspring, son Naquan L. Ross; his love, Donna Crawford; sister Veronica; brother Walter N. Jr.; paternal siblings Shawn & Tawanna Scott; two maternal aunts - Stacey & Julia Speller; two sisters-in-law Brenda Ross & Mary Scott and one brother in-law, Jerry X.; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
