Marilyn Thompson Obituary

On June 27, 1957, the world was blessed with the birth of Marilyn Thompson, a vibrant and loving soul born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Raised in a Christian home, Marilyn grew up attending St. Luke's Church in Brownsville, Brooklyn. She attended services every Sunday, and as she matured, Marilyn continued to uphold the values of faith, love, and family that shaped her throughout her life.

Family was the heartbeat of Marilyn's life. She was a devoted mother to her four children—Jamel, Cory, Jasmin, and Brandon Thompson—and embraced her role in raising them with endless love and care. Marilyn also played a pivotal role in raising her stepson, Jahan, the son of her late husband, Gregory Thompson. She welcomed him into the family with the same devotion and nurtured strong bonds rooted in love and unity.

In 2018, Marilyn experienced one of the most joyful moments of her life when her eldest son, Jamel, married the love of his life, Dawn DeNardo. Marilyn and her youngest son, Brandon, were there to witness the beautiful ceremony, and her heart swelled with pride and happiness.

After the passing of her beloved husband, Gregory, Marilyn found new companionship and support in Benjamin Payne, known as Bezo. Bezo became an essential part of her life, helping to raise her children into adulthood and creating a home filled with love, laughter, food, and countless cherished memories. Together, they fostered an environment where love and family were always at the center of everything.

Marilyn’s love for plants was well-known, as her home became a sanctuary of greenery, reflecting the nurturing spirit she extended to everyone around her. Music was another passion that brought her joy, with a taste that ranged from her brothers’ band, exit 9, to the soulful sounds of The Spinners, Sade, and Anita Baker, as well as the raw energy of DMX (get at me dog), Music filled her home, bringing her peace and comfort in all seasons of life.

Marilyn Thompson leaves behind a legacy of resilience, grace, and compassion. Her children—Jamel, Cory, Jasmin, and Brandon—her stepson Jahan, her beloved grandchildren, and her seven siblings, along with all those whose lives she touched, will forever hold her in their hearts. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, a loyal sister, and a cherished friend. Her warmth, laughter, and zest for life will be remembered by all who knew her.

Rest in peace, Marilyn. Your light will continue to shine in the hearts of your loved ones forever.
